His Excellency Juha Sipilä

Prime Minister of the Republic of Finland | November 26, 2018
Discussed Finland's growing economy and foreign policy.

His Excellency Juha Sipilä, Prime Minister of the Republic of Finland, addressed the Economic Club during his visit to the United States, discussing international foreign policy and the Finnish economy with Club President David Rubenstein. Prime Minister Sipilä focused primarily on Brexit and its effects on the European Union, as the Prime Minister is expected to become the President of the Council of the European Union in July 2019. While the European Union did recently approve a Brexit deal with the United Kingdom, Prime Minister Sipilä said it is still a lose-lose situation for both parties. "I am concerned about the global economy in the year ahead, most especially as it relates to trade policy," he told members and guests in attendance. Prime Minister Sipilä also touched on the growing Finnish economy, noting that mass exports out of the country continue to drive economic growth. He encouraged other countries to invest in Finland given the large-scale innovation and technological advances occurring in the country.
