The Honorable Lawrence J. Hogan, Jr.

Governor of Maryland | August 02, 2018
Addressed issues facing the state of Maryland such as transportation and education.

During the Economic Club’s inaugural Regional Executive Conversation, Governor Larry Hogan of Maryland joined David Rubenstein to discuss his high approval ratings as a Republican governor in a heavily Democratic state, as well as issues facing the region, including the possibility of Amazon’s HQ2 coming to the D.C. Metropolitan area. “I think it’s a really good chance it’s going to happen… We had the best, most aggressive proposal in America,” he said, adding that he thinks Amazon President, CEO and Chairman of the Board Jeff Bezos should “close the deal” at his upcoming Economic Club visit in September. Governor Hogan also talked about his fight with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma during the beginning of his governorship, and how he has been able to overcome his cancer while in office. “Probably everybody in this room has in one way or another been touched by cancer… Everybody else that goes through it tries to fight too… [and] do their job as best they can, to keep working,” he said, noting that he never thought about stepping aside from the job.
