Senator Max Baucus (D-MT) Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, and Representative Dave Camp (R-MI) Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, sat down with Economic Club President David M. Rubenstein to discuss their joint campaign to achieve a major overhaul of the U.S. tax code, last accomplished successfully in 1986. Both Chairmen rated the chances of achieving this goal at 50 percent, but were optimistic that reform could result from the personal approach they are applying to the effort. Representative Camp is meeting with every House Republican freshman and Senator Baucus aims for individual meetings with other senators.
