Senators Saxby Chambliss & Mark Warner
Location: The Renaissance Hotel Downtown (999 9th St. NW)
Time: 11:15am reception; 12pm Lunch and Program
On June 8, Senators Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) and Mark Warner (D-VA) will speak to the Economic Club about the efforts of the bipartisan “Gang of Six” in the U.S. Senate to negotiate a realistic path toward achieving meaningful reduction of the budget deficit. Using the findings of President Barack Obama’s bipartisan fiscal commission as a baseline, the Gang of Six is working to craft legislation that will shrink the budget deficit by reducing entitlement spending and increasing taxes. This will be the first time that Senators Chambliss and Warner have addressed a Washington, DC, audience to explain the details of what the Gang of Six is attempting to achieve and how the negotiations are progressing. Other members of the Gang of Six are Republican Senators Tom Coburn (OK) and Mike Crapo (ID) and Democrat Senators Kent Conrad (ND) and Dick Durbin (IL).
