Discussed Lockheed Martin's innovation and challenges as the nation's largest defense contractor.

The Economic Club hosted Marillyn A. Hewson, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Lockheed Martin, for a dinner event on March 7th. Ms. Hewson discussed Lockheed Martin’s innovation in emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence. She also mentioned the importance of cybersecurity as foreign adversaries target U.S. defense contractors. “These threats are advanced and asymmetric, and they’re constantly changing. And it’s really important for us to stay on top of that and keep investing in it,” she said. Hewson also highlighted the challenges Lockheed Martin faces as the nation’s largest defense contractor, including winning government contracts and defense spending. She described the defense industry as playing catchup while the Department of Defense budget is higher this year compared to previous years. Hewson also highlighted the growing number of women in science, technology, engineering and math companies, drawing from her past experiences as well. “[There’s no longer] only one woman in the room… We’re always working on that pipeline to get more women,” Hewson said.
